TRAINING

Drive Logistics University:

Drive Logistics University provides on-going training to all areas of company. Drive Logistics developed Drive Logistics University to further develop our Guiding Values within the organization. Drive Logistics University gives us the confidence that we will have the best-trained team of professionals in the industry.

A well-trained team of professionals will help us reach even higher levels of service for our customer. Training is offered to our employees in areas such as Safety, Leadership, Customer Service, Technology and Government Regulations.

The Drive Logistics University Apprenticeship Program:

After more than two and half years, The Apprenticeship Program for Professional Drivers in Ontario is on a reality. On August 2, 2006, Drive Logistics became an official apprenticeship sponsor. Margaret Williams, from the ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, was on hand to officially the first apprentices in the program. These apprentices are the first drivers in the Windsor/Essex county area to be entered into the Ontario Apprenticeship Program.

Drive Logistics believes the Apprenticeship Program will help us develop new drivers into top notch professionals which will allow us to continue to offer a premium service to our customers. The Training and Safety departments at Drive Logistics have spent many hours developing training material to exceed the ministry’s requirements for the program. This program will give the professional drivers the recognition they deserve and help promote our industry to Ontario’s youth.

Once in the truck you will be learning cab controls, engine operations and how to correctly shift and drive the truck. Some of the key areas you will practice are:

  • Driving in city and highway traffic
  • Backing the tractor-trailer into docks
  • Coupling and uncoupling the tractor to the trailer
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspection
  • Turning with the tractor and trailer
  • Negotiating intersections and railroad crossings
  • Border crossing training
  • Defensive driving training

The lessons gained in these workshops will be then reinforced through on-the-job training with a professional truck driving mentor. The dedication our mentors show to their apprentices reflects the commitment within our organization to our guiding values and to the future of the industry.
